Croatia’s two powerhouse soccer clubs Hadjuk Split and Dinamo Zagred met up this weekend, as always the match was accompanied by scenes of violence, the Hadjuk and Dinamo clubs prepared for the latest match in their long running battle between them. The fans seem to have gotten what they wanted, as the Dinamo Zagreb fans managed to provoke the riot police into climbing stands and a full blown typical football battle punch out began.
With the fight raging around them, the camera kept switching back and fourth between the football match and the violence erupting in the stands, as if it was all perfectly normal.
Niko Kranjcar commented on the 101 Great Goals website by saying:
“Because i have played for both Hajduk and Dinamo i have seen first hand the violence and hatred that Torcida and the Bad Blue Boys have for each other. I assure you it is much more than what it seems. It is a way of life for them and they cannot go to a derby match without getting into a fight. I think sometimes it may outshine the game itself but all in all it adds to the rivalry and the build up to the game. If anyone saw the game they saw the sheer determination and grit that the players had and they saw that each of the players was playing for the badge on their jersey. Great match and looking forward to the next one in Zagreb.”

Gotta love these Croatian fans! It was a good soccer game aside from this anyway.
