Shakira’s Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) The real offical song?

Another “official” World Cup song has been named by FIFA and this time it is from the Colombian born singer Shakira. She was recently given the title of official song for the 2010 World Cup. In fact, Shakira will perform the song with South African band Freshlyground at the World Cup. But if you ask anyone else what the official World Cup song is for this year’s event they will tell you it is K’naan’s “Wavin Flag”. The Canadian hip-hop artist song was given that title here at soccermusic and has been featured in numerous FIFA promotional videos and commercials as they led everyone to beleive that it was the official song. Apparently, Wavin Flag is Coca Cola’s official anthem for the World Cup and Shakira’s track is FIFA’s official song. I’m a little disappointed to say the least, as I think K’naan’s song is not only superior in every way it more embodies the feel of this year’s event in South Africa. Shakira’s latin flavor should have waited for when the event goes to Brazil. Well here at soccermusic K’naan’s “Wavin Flag” will always be the song of the 2010 World Cup.

A streaker and hot girls – what else can you ask for in a soccer vid. The video is actually pretty funny, it features a streaker foiling the keystone cops through out the football stadium. The video appears to mix real footage with what must be staged footage or else this is the craziest streaking prank ever caught on film. Unapologetic, the video just starts showing hot soccer photos (not that anyone is complaining). This is all displayed for your viewing pleasure to a great track by the nosebleed section. It is the best 3:40 you will spend all day. Enjoy.

Soccer Highlights featuring ACDC’s Thunderstruck

With one of the best rock songs of all time as the featured track this video already wins with me – but there are also great football being shown as well. The vid starts a little slow but just like ACDC and the song “thunderstruck”, it gets better as it goes along. Some highlights include one of the best Beckham goals of his career and some great footwork displays by Ronaldo.

FIFA 10 – How big can football get?

This UK advert for EA Sports asks the question “how big can football get?” and the campaign slogan “Lets FIFA” encourages football fans around the world to join in the fun with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jose Bosingwa, Theo Walcott, Tim Cahill, Karim Benzema and Xavi. Rooney with his British football swagger really stands out in the commercial for me – I can picture him as some badass thug in a Guy Ritchie gangsta flick. The video also mixes real soccer action with clips from the video game, in fact the graphics are so impressive I actually preferred them over the real thing. Overall a great new soccer spot by the advertising agency Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam.

One of the great things about a FIFA World Cup are the beautiful women that the cameramen always seem to pick out of the crowd, but then again there is no shortage of soccer hotties at a World Cup event and I’m sure this year’s crop in South Africa will be no exception. Can’t wait for some new compilations. The music accompanying the sexy football pics is by techno group NRG who sampled the 1980’s hit “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime” by The Korgis.

This one is for all the Lyon soccer fans who recently had their hearts broken with their loss to FC Bayern in the semi finals for the UEFA Championship. The video was made by Thevy and features the rock song “Same Old Song” by Pain. The song is hard and dark but really goes well with the football images and Lyon’s bad luck. Well they are still the best football club in France. Vive Lyon!

“Roger Milla” The History of World Cup Celebrations Coke Ad

At the ripe old age of 38, Roger Milla emerged as one of the superstars of FIFA’s 1990 World Cup in Italy. Milla scored four goals in that World Cup and celebrated each goal with a dance around the corner post. The soccer world never saw anything like it and it has changed that way football players celebrate goals ever since. As part of Coca Cola’s 2010 World Cup sponsorship campaign they pay tribute to the most famous African Soccer player in the world. In turn I am including the credits to this great advert.
